“My favorite feature on my face has to be my eyes,” says Jihyo. “When people first see my face, they say they notice my eyes first.” It’s only natural, then, that the Korean pop star focuses on her favorite feature during her daily beauty routine. Herewith, the chanteuse shares her secrets for accentuated eyes and soft blush makeup.
Like any good regimen, skincare is first. We see Jihyo, who is part of the South Korean girl group Twice, glide a Vanav device across her visage in between a face mask, toner, and hydrating serum. Now ready for makeup, the 26-year-old ensures that anything she puts on stays on. “My eyes are on the bigger side. So when I smile, my eyes close here,” she says, indicating the outer corners of her eyes. “That’s why my makeup smudges a lot.” Enter NARS’s smudge-proof eyeshadow base, which she wears every day, “without fail.”
With her eyelids thoroughly primed, she goes into the shadows. Holding up a palette from K-beauty brand Milk Touch, of which she is an ambassador, the singer says she likes to create a “light-as-possible” base—dusting taupe and cream shades across her lids. “I tend to do my makeup so it doesn’t stand out.” She does, however, like her eyes to pop. Jihyo says that she tends to “wear more eyeliner,” even if applying it doesn’t come easily. That’s why she uses Laura Mercier concealer to tidy up the lines after she’s dashed on her liquid liner.
Next, she demonstrates a handy trick she’s picked up. Holding a curler to the base of her lashes, Jihyo moves her hand up as she curls. “I tried that method and [my lashes] looked very natural,” she reports, offering a close-up view of her prettily curved fringe. Even as she finishes up her eye makeup, Jihyo’s not one to cut corners. “Another thing I think is important is the triangle zone of the eye,” she says, pointing to her eyes’ outer edges. “You need to fill this in [with eyeliner], in order to make your eyes longer.”
With her gaze ready to go, she reaches for her makeup essential. “Even if I don’t do eye makeup, I’ll always wear blush before I go out,” she says, opting for a petal-pink option from Milk Touch. Using long strokes, she brushes the powder over the tops of her cheeks. “You have to make [the brushstrokes] long or else it doesn’t really enhance your cheekbones,” she asserts. Jihyo’s style calls for contour after blush. She whirls together a few colors from a Too Cool For School palette, then brushes the contour onto her cheekbones and jawline. After glossing her pout with Dasique’s high-shine balm, she is off. “Well, there you have it,” she says. “My daily makeup look is finished!” And it’s just as bright-eyed and naturally flushed as she likes it.
