What it is: A new “fanning and volumizing” mascara formulation from Benefit Cosmetics.

Featuring a “full-flex fibre brush” to help grab and separate individual lashes, the Fan Fest mascara promises to provide buildable, lightweight volume and lift to lashes that’s also smudge-proof, water-resistant, humidity-proof, clump-free and sweatproof.

Featuring “lash-loving” ingredients such as Provitamin B5, cranberry extract and rice wax, the formula nourishes and conditions lashes in addition to its volumizing makeup benefits.

What we say: Always game to try a new mascara, our tester was excited to sweep on this new release.

Benefit already boasts several popular mascaras in its range, including They’re Real and Roller Lash. A big fan of the latter formulation, our tester was interested to see how this new Fan Fest release would compare.

The broad application brush features superfine bristles that help to grab and evenly coat lashes, she reports. It even seemed to get the mini-lash hairs that are often left out of bigger-bristle brushes.

One coat gave a nice, natural look with some noticeable lift, she reports. While two — and even three — coats gave a big boost to volume without getting clumpy or weighed down. True to its claims, the formula didn’t flake or smudge. This Fan Fest option may well be a new go-to.

Where to get it: Sephora, Benefitcosmetics.com.

What it will cost you: $38.
